Emotional television

I've got to stop watching emotional television programmes....not that I really get all that much time to watch TV during the week, but last week whenever I flicked around the channels I ended up watching some sort of emotionally draining progamme about saving the puppies or somesuch.

It began last Tuesday as I happened upon a harrowing documentary about the Pet Rescue Service in post-Hurricane Katronia New Orleans. The stories were mostly happy endings but I got totally teary-eyed over a 73-year old man who had to leave his cat ("I call her Con Cat - as she conned me into taking care of her") behind when evacuated.

If it's not animal rescue, any sports documentary gets me emotional...cue a programme about Aryton Senna and the events leading to his dramatic death at the Imola racetrack.

And just now...Padraig Harrington has finally won a major championship - The British Open. I'm not a major golf fan really but I sat through the 4-hole playoff and along with every golf fan in Ireland willed the ball into the hole at the 18th.
